Usually they just want out, in which case you should ignore them otherwise you’re teaching your dog that whining will get him what he wants. Wait until your dog quiets down before letting him out, and then try again later with a shorter period of confinement. Here’s more info:http://dogtime.com/housetraining-crate-t…

when you start crating a puppy you should make sure that, before you even use the crate the puppy is comfortable around and feels safe being in it. Never just put your puppy in there and walk away. They should also only be in there a few minutes at a time to start. Gradually work up to leaving them in there for longer periods. In the meantime find a room like a bathroom or kitchen with tile floors that you can gate to keep the puppy in while you’re crate training and need to be away.
    Good luck and best wishes

Hum It depends on what you are trying to achieve. If your aim is to get him used to being crated (eg overnight) obviously apart from telling him to settle down, you ignore him. If you are putting him in there when he’s not ‘gone’ outside, to stop him from coming back in and peeing, and you intend to let him out again shortly, again ignore him.
Without knowing exactly what’s going on here (why the moaning, and when) it’s difficult to answer this apart from saying the whole point of crating is to stop him from peeing everywhere round the house, and to be sure he’s somewhere safe when you are doing something else.
Harden your heart and ignore him (within reason – no puppy of this age should be crated, apart from overnight when he needs to go out once, for longer than 2 hours at a time).

You should leave him in there when he cries. He will eventually get used to it. If you stay with him or let him out he won’t ever get used to it. Make sure you don’t leave him in too long though, at 11 weeks he should still be let out every 3 hours or so. A good rule of thumb is take how many months old the puppy is and add 1, that is how many hours they can stay in the crate at a time (up to about 8-9 hours).

you cannot keep letting the puppy out
it will not be used to be alone in the crate by itself at first
but after a while it will begin to get into the crate on his own
my dogs run to their crate when they are in trouble now
he will begin to feel that his crate is his home
you just have to let him get used to the crate
he will stop crying after a while
and will get used to the concept of being in a crate

If you are training him, maybe you should put some treats in the crate with him, so he associates the crate with a good thing. But I don’t think you should stay with him if you’re going to put him in the crate while you’re at work, going to the store etc.

Crate training takes a bit of time and patence. To start with I’d crate for 15 minutes then come right back and praise the dog and take him outside. Do this on and off during the day say 3-4 times. Gradually increase the time the dog is in the crate

Do please explain just HOW it will learn ANYTHING if you keep “RESCUING” IT!! If you continue to NOT teach it?
CRATE,shut door, demand SHUDDUP until it’s time for taking it OUTSIDE-instantly- to eliminate!

yeah, i’ve the same problem as you do,
but since i get dog personal trainer,
i don’t have any problem again with that.

Ignore him because if you don’t every time you put him in the crate or leave he will start moaning.
